Types of therapy

Systemic family therapy involves aiming to understand family dynamics, and those of social or work groups, and how they affect the lives of families and individuals. Sessions can involve both individuals, discussing particular issues for one person, and groups of family members, bringing together those who want take part in the therapy.

Sessions usually last 90 minutes and take place at times to suit the progress of the therapy.

Thought field therapy is an effective and swift way of relieving emotional distress, anxieties, phobias, depressive feelings, and panic attacks. It involves the client tapping on the end points of the energy meridians (which are also used in acupuncture) on the head, upper body and the hands, while bringing to mind a particular problem. Once initial relief is achieved then, if necessary, underlying issues can be addressed using the more traditional talking therapies.

Sessions are usually for 90 minutes, at weekly or fortnightly intervals.

EMDR (Eye Movement De-Sensitisation and Regulation) is a therapy that uses eye-movements and other dual-attention practices to help process anxiety-provoking memories, thoughts and images following traumatic events. It is used in conjunction with other traditional therapies as part of an integrative form of treatment.

Sessions last 90 minutes at weekly or fortnightly intervals, depending on individual circumstances.
